Don't fall in
This photo has a bit of a strange title....but it means something. 'Don't fall in' could refer to the half a dozen starfish you can see at low tide in the foreground attached to the rock shelf or it could refer to the photographer standing on a 2 foot wide rock shelf with a 6 foot drop into the ocean either side and a rushing tide underneath. Unfortunately, it doesn't refer to either of these. It refers to my cable release which was lost while setting up this vertical shot at Motukiekie Beach. Thankfully for this shot I was able to shoot with a shutter speed less than 1 second.
The next day we ventured into Greymouth to see if the local camera store had a cable release. Unfortunately they didn't. However, there is a photographer, Stewart Nimmo, in town who runs a gallery. Seeing as I didn't really have any other options, on the off chance I asked Stewart if he had one I could borrow and return to him or buy off him. He was very helpful and went upstairs (while he let me run the shop :P ) to collect one for me. He gave it to me for free and I was able to use it for the rest of my trip! Thanks Stewart. Check out his work at http://www.stewartnimmo.co.nz/ or visit his gallery in the main street if you are ever in Greymouth.
