Cradle Star Trail

Cradle Star Trail

I took this photo while on a family holiday in Tasmania in April 2023. It was a fantastic time away!
I took this photo on our first night at Cradle Mountain as it was epically clear skies - which is rare! The last time I was at this location to photograph stars I waited in the car for 45 minutes for clouds to clear only to get a pretty lousy shot! Anyway, I decided I would venture down to photograph some stars.
A few years ago they introduced a bus service down to Dove Lake from Cradle Mountain which limits vehicular access to the lake. I had done some research as I really wanted to get to this location to do some sunset or sunrise photography or star trails. It turns out that once the buses have finished for the day, vehicles can travel to Dove lake by driving up to the boom gates - which then just open. There are some proviso's and one of those is that if you are driving out after the bus service resumes, then you must follow a bus out. They radio to each other so they can safely pass one another on the narrow and windy road.
Anyway, I drove down to Dove lake and drove incredibly slowly. One other time I was here with my wife we saw so many wombats, wallabies and even a spotted quoll, so I made sure I took it easy.
